If you’re an active, adventure-seeking history lover, there’s no better way to explore Egypt and Jordan than with Intrepid. My journey through these two culturally rich and diverse countries was filled with awe-inspiring landmarks, unforgettable experiences, and invaluable lessons for future travel.

A Desert Like No Other One

of the highlights of this trip was camping in Jordan’s Wadi Rum Desert. Surrounded by striking red sands and rugged cliffs, I felt like I had stepped into another world. The desert came alive under a canopy of stars. Our Bedouin hosts shared stories, music, and meals cooked in traditional underground ovens, making the experience deeply personal and authentic.

Soaring Over History: A Hot Air Balloon Ride in Luxor

Equally unforgettable was a hot air balloon ride over Luxor, Egypt. As the sun rose, the landscape unfolded below-a patchwork of lush fields, winding Niles waters, and ancient temples. Floating about the Valley of the Kings was a surreal experience, offering a perspective few travelers get to see. The tranquility of the flight stood in stark contrast to the bustling streets of Cairo, where constant honking replaces stop signs and red lights.

Cultural Insights and Travel Tips

Traveling through Egypt and Jordan also offered a crash course in cultural differences, particularly around dress for women. Modesty is key, especially in rural areas, and wearing lightweight, breathable clothing that covers your shoulders and knees is not just respectful but practical under the sun.

As a woman, I felt very safe throughout the trip, thanks to Intrepid’s knowledgeable guides and thoughtful itinerary. However, I'd advise travelers to stay aware of their surroundings, especially in busy areas like Cairo and Amman.

September proved an excellent time to visit. The weather, while still warm, was more manageable than the scorching summer months. Must-haves for this journey include sturdy walking shoes (you’ll clock a lot of steps!) and bug spray, especially for evenings in the desert.

From Egypt’s grand pyramids and temples to Jordan's ancient Petra and vibrant Amman markets, this trip was a feast for the senses. Navigating bustling bazaars, tasting local dishes, and observing life without the usual traffic controls adds to the authenticity of the experience.

As a travel professional, this journey has enriched my ability to prepare clients for similar adventures. This trip wasn’t just a vacation; it was an adventure filled with stories, lessons, and unforgettable experiences. If you’re ready to embrace history, adventure, and culture, Egypt and Jordan are waiting for you!
