About Me

Angela Hughes is a leading Japan travel expert, CEO of Trips and Ships Travel, and founder of Luxury Travel University. She lived in Japan for nearly two years, giving her a deep cultural connection and firsthand understanding of the country’s traditions, regional differences, and everyday life. Angela creates curated Japan itineraries that include city exploration, countryside experiences, cherry blossom and fall foliage travel, food adventures, cultural immersion, and fully escorted programs. Travelers rely on her insights, trusted partnerships, and thoughtful planning for smooth and meaningful journeys across Japan.

Japan is a country full of surprises. From the vibrant streets of Tokyo to the tranquil temples and gardens of Kyoto, there is something for every type of traveler. One of the best ways to experience Japan’s culture, history, cuisine, and scenic landscapes is through a guided tour with Tauck or Globus, both known for seamless itineraries and expert-led experiences. Travelers can also explore Japan by sea, cruising around the country with Regent, Silversea, Seabourn, Oceania, Princess, Royal Caribbean, or Holland America. These sailings offer opportunities to visit multiple ports, enjoy immersive shore excursions, and combine pre- and post-stays in iconic cities such as Tokyo, Yokohama, Osaka, and Kobe.

Angela designs itineraries that highlight Tokyo’s neighborhoods, markets, art districts, shrines, and Michelin dining. She incorporates immersive experiences such as tea ceremonies, cooking classes, sumo encounters, and guided temple visits. Kyoto remains one of the most important destinations in Japan with UNESCO temples, geisha districts, bamboo forests, gardens, and seasonal beauty. Angela often includes private guides, cultural performances, traditional dinners, and visits to Gion.

Osaka adds vibrant nightlife, street food, historic castles, and easy access to Nara, where Angela once lived, making these experiences especially meaningful. She also designs touring in Hakone and Mt. Fuji for hot springs and scenic views, Takayama and Shirakawa-go for village culture, Kanazawa for garden and samurai history, Hiroshima and Miyajima for reflection, and Hokkaido for nature, wildlife, and winter sports. Her itineraries often include ryokan stays, onsen visits, bullet trains, and festivals.

Because Angela lived in Japan for nearly two years, she is uniquely positioned to guide travelers through the country’s traditions, customs, geography, language differences, and seasonal highlights. She helps travelers navigate Japan’s complex train system, cherry blossom season, fall foliage schedules, festival calendars, and regional culinary specialties. Her itineraries can include ryokan stays, onsen visits, bullet trains, Japanese Alps hiking, Hokkaido wildlife experiences, temple visits, market tours, and village-to-city combinations.

Angela partners with Japan’s top hotels including luxury city hotels, boutique ryokan, onsen resorts, traditional inns, and modern design properties. She coordinates all transportation including bullet trains, private drivers, regional flights, and cultural guides. Most travelers spend ten to fourteen days depending on how many regions they include.

Food plays a major role in Angela’s Japan itineraries. She includes sushi experiences, ramen tastings, izakaya tours, tempura dining, market walks, wagyu dinners, and multi-course kaiseki meals. Each region has its own culinary traditions, and Angela integrates them into daily touring.

Travelers choose Angela because she understands Japan on a deeper level, having lived in the country and returned many times. Her Japan travel packages highlight culture, tradition, nature, modern innovation, and the unforgettable experiences that make Japan one of Asia’s most captivating destinations.

Angela is truly a travel expert!
Reviewed By Heidi - Utah | Traveled to
After working in the travel industry for 17 years, I am very picky about who I use to coordinate our travel. Angela just booked a Mediterranean cruise for my family and I couldn't have been happier with her superior knowledge and outstanding customer service. We also attended a humanitarian mission last summer that Angela coordinated. I was so impressed with entire experience! I would recommend Angela and her company to anyone.
I would recommend this agent to my family and friends.

France Tour
Reviewed By Jan D. - Utah | Traveled to France ~ Europe
Just wanted to let you know that my daughter and I had a great trip to France! Everything worked out beautifully without the stress of making all the arrangements myself as I have done before.??????? We took the option of going to the beaches of Normandy have been there before but I was anxious for my daughter to see them as my father was part of the first assault on day. We had a great tour guide, Jonathan Holburn was was very knowledgeable, helpful and funny.

Thanks for encouraging me
Reviewed By Linda - Bedford | Traveled to India ~ Central Asia

We r still in India, I am loving it, the people are so nice. It amazes me how people in US are so frightened. I keep getting messages about, are you afraid, bet you can’t wait to come home, I would never go there. I guess I asked you if I was safe, but I was still going.

Anyway, thanks for encouraging me. I look forward to going home and opening peoples minds. You have an awesome job, you make the world smaller for people, you open people minds, hearts and change lives for the better.

I would recommend this agent to my family and friends.

I do not have much international travel experience, so I was looking for a travel agent that did. In that, I decided to team up with Angela to plan my trip to Greece. She has been there many times and I found that so helpful to plan. She was professional, offered her experienced opinion and ultimately, the trip was amazing.

Ireland Anniversary Trip
Reviewed By Brian C - Winter Garden | Traveled to Ireland ~ Europe
We started our journey in Dublin Ireland from there, we went to the Cliffs of Moher, which were absolutely stunning. We also visited Galway, stayed at the Ashford castle, and journeyed to Edinburgh, and the Scottish Highlands. In St. Andrews, where we visited the famous golf course and watched The Open tournament which was a highlight for me.

One of the best parts of the trip was how green everything was. It was so nice to see all the greenery and the beautiful landscapes. The people were also very friendly and helpful. Overall, it was an amazing trip and I would definitely recommend it to anyone who is thinking about travelling to these two countries. This was our first guided tour with Trafalgar and it was the right choice for me and saved me a lot of hassle. We would definitely choose the guided option again. Angela helped us with all of the details and even though this had been postponed with covid she still helped us make it happen! Happy wife = Happy life
I would recommend this agent to my family and friends.
