About Me

A trip to Portugal offers a rich tapestry of experiences, combining history, culture, stunning landscapes, and vibrant cities. Day 1: Arrival in Lisbon Your adventure begins in Lisbon, Portugal's capital. As you land at Humberto Delgado Airport, you're greeted by the warm Mediterranean air. After settling into your hotel in the historic neighborhood of Alfama, you set out to explore the city's charming streets. Alfama is a maze of narrow alleys, steep staircases, and tiled buildings, where the sounds of Fado music drift from small taverns. You visit the São Jorge Castle, perched on a hilltop, offering panoramic views of the city and the Tagus River. Dinner is at a traditional restaurant where you try bacalhau à brás, a classic Portuguese dish made from salted cod, potatoes, and eggs.Day 2: Exploring Lisbon The next day, you delve deeper into Lisbon’s cultural treasures. The Belém district is your first stop, where you visit the Jerónimos Monastery, a stunning example of Manueline architecture, and the Belém Tower, both UNESCO World Heritage sites. Nearby, you indulge in a pastel de nata at the famous Pastéis de Belém, a pastry shop that has been making these delicious custard tarts since 1837. In the afternoon, you take a tram ride through the city, exploring neighborhoods like Bairro Alto and Chiado, known for their vibrant nightlife and artistic vibe. The evening is spent enjoying a Fado performance in a local club, where the melancholic melodies capture the soul of Portugal.Day 3: Day Trip to Sintra On your third day, you take a short train ride to Sintra, a fairy-tale town nestled in the hills near Lisbon. Sintra is known for its whimsical palaces and lush gardens. Your first stop is the Pena Palace, a brightly colored castle that looks straight out of a storybook, with its eclectic mix of architectural styles. You also explore the Quinta da Regaleira, a mystical estate with hidden tunnels, grottoes, and a spiraling well. The town itself is charming, with cobbled streets and quaint cafes. After a day of exploration, you return to Lisbon for a relaxing evening.Day 4: Heading to PortoAfter breakfast, you catch a train to Porto, Portugal's second-largest city, known for its wine and picturesque riverside. Upon arrival, you’re struck by the beauty of the Ribeira district, where colorful buildings line the banks of the Douro River. You cross the iconic Dom Luís I Bridge to Vila Nova de Gaia, where the famous port wine cellars are located. Here, you take a guided tour and enjoy a tasting of various Port wines, learning about the history and production process of this world-renowned drink. Dinner is at a riverside restaurant where you savor francesinha, a hearty sandwich layered with meats, cheese, and a rich tomato and beer sauce.Day 5: Exploring PortoYour day begins with a visit to the Livraria Lello, one of the most beautiful bookstores in the world, with its ornate wooden staircase and stained glass ceiling. You then visit the Clerigos Tower and climb its 240 steps for a breathtaking view of the city. The São Bento Railway Station is another must-see, with its stunning azulejos (blue and white tiles) depicting scenes from Portuguese history. In the afternoon, you take a leisurely boat cruise along the Douro River, enjoying views of the city’s terraced hillsides and iconic bridges. The evening is spent exploring the lively bars and cafes in the Galerias de Paris area.Day 6: Douro Valley Wine TourOn day six, you embark on a full-day excursion to the Douro Valley, a UNESCO World Heritage site and one of the oldest wine regions in the world. As your tour bus winds through the valley’s terraced vineyards, you marvel at the stunning scenery. You visit several wineries, where you learn about the wine-making process and taste a variety of wines, including the famous Port. A traditional lunch is served at a local vineyard, with stunning views of the Douro River below. The day ends with a peaceful boat ride along the river before returning to Porto.Day 7: Relaxing in the Algarve For the final leg of your journey, you fly south to the Algarve, Portugal’s sun-soaked region known for its golden beaches and dramatic cliffs. You stay in the coastal town of Lagos, where you spend the day relaxing on the beaches of Praia Dona Ana and Praia do Camilo. The clear turquoise waters and unique rock formations make this a perfect spot for swimming and sunbathing. In the evening, you explore the town’s historic center, with its charming streets, lively restaurants, and vibrant nightlife. Dinner is at a seafood restaurant where you savor grilled sardines, a local specialty. Conclusion A trip to Portugal is a journey through time and culture, offering a blend of vibrant cities, historical landmarks, stunning landscapes, and delicious cuisine. Whether you’re exploring the bustling streets of Lisbon, tasting wine in Porto, or relaxing on the beaches of the Algarve, Portugal captivates with its warmth, beauty, and charm.

Susan Talbot is not just an excellent travel agent, she is also a wonderful, caring person. She cares about
her clients.
I have had many trips with Susan; from Hawaii to Paris, France to Barbados. All were handled with care
and professionalism. Her clients are important to her. That has been my experience as proven when my
husband took ill and had to be hospitalized in Hawaii. Susan was there to put us in touch with the right
people and followed through with all the arrangements even a&er we were home.
