The morning tour is a journey of discovery designed to explore the history and sights as well as see how Aucklanders live and play. Travel up Queen Street, through Auckland’s central business district, past the Auckland University and through the inner city park, known as the Domain. Continue on through the picturesque suburb of Ponsonby, with its historic buildings before heading over the Harbour Bridge to Auckland’s North Shore. Stroll on one of our beautiful white sand beaches where there is time for a coffee before continuing up to the summit of Mt Victoria with its stunning panoramic views of Auckland City and historic Devonport. Then travel back over the Harbour Bridge to view Westhaven Marina, one of the largest marinas in the Southern Hemisphere. The remainder of your day is free to explore the city at your leisure.

Travel south from Auckland over the Bombay Hills to the rich farmland of the Waikato region. Your journey takes you through undulating green hills reminding you that you are approaching The Shire. Your Bush and Beach guide will give you commentary on the way to Hobbiton with insights into the areas you are travelling through, along with some background to the movies. On arrival at Shire’s Rest you embark on your Hobbiton movie set tour. This location is the largest “green set” in the world and the only part of the set remaining in New Zealand. You see 44 hobbit holes, the Mill and double arch bridge and the party tree. At this stunning location you can take a photo at the gate to Bilbo’s house, “Bag End”, looking out over the whole set to the hills in the distance. The tour ends with a visit to the Green Dragon Inn for a drink. After the movie set tour concludes, clients are transferred to Rotorua.

This evening enjoy the Te Puia Indigenous Experience begins with our mouth-watering buffet at our world-famous Pataka Kai Restaurant, Bar, and Cafe. With locally sourced cuisine and an authentic Maori twist in each dish, our buffet is guaranteed to be a favorite. Following this, you will be led to view an exhilarating cultural performance that takes place in our beautifully carved meeting house, Te Aronui a Rua. It will include a Pohiri (Traditional Maori Welcome), Waiata (Song), Moteatea (traditional chant), Poi, and Haka. Afterward, enter the geothermal valley on our waka (electric shuttle) and discover one of New Zealand’s most magnificent geothermal wonderlands – featuring dramatic geysers, bubbling mud, and beautiful native bush. Sit back, relax and soak up the scenic sights on this morning of guided sightseeing. Discover the thrill of the Bungy! Watch intrepid jumpers from the viewing deck and feel the adrenaline as they plummet at a height of 43 metres! Stop in into the “Valley of the Vines” Gibbston region for a wine tasting at Gibbston Valley Winery. Spend time exploring the 1860’s gold rush history and the picturesque colonial architecture of Arrowtown with time to wander the main street and explore the Chinese Village. Finish with breath-taking panoramic views from the Coronet Saddle lookout and wind your way back to town via the Shotover River Gorge.

Day 8 Milford Sound
Milford Sound is an area of extraordinary beauty. It offers a majestic fiords and dramatic scenery. The scenic highlights include the famous Skippers Canyon, the Paradise region, and the Donne glacier. Your 35-minute flight concludes with an over flight of the fiord of Milford Sound, prior to landing. The second half of the adventure begins in Milford Sound, where you board the “Spirit of Milford” to enjoy your Milford Sound Cruise. Nature Guides offer commentary. The “Spirit of Milford” catamaran explores the edge of the fiord, nudging into sheer rock faces to examine flora & fauna in detail. Following your cruise, return flight takes in many of the pristine alpine lakes and waterfalls that Fiordland National Park is recognized for, including the Sutherland Falls which span 1900ft. Flight time is another 35 minutes, with a total trip time of approximately 4 hours. After enjoying your Scenic Flight back from Milford Sound you will land back in Queenstown to complete the journey.
