This immersive journey through Morocco's rich cultural tapestry and awe-inspiring landscapes left me enchanted, enlightened, and eager to share my experiences with fellow travel enthusiasts.

Day 1: A Vibrant Start in Casablanca

Our adventure commenced in Casablanca, the stark contrast between the gleaming Hassan II Mosque and the city's bustling streets was a fitting introduction. As our group gathered for the introductory meeting, I felt a sense of excitement for the days ahead.

Day 2: A Glimpse into the Past - Volubilis and Beyond

As we left Casablanca behind, our group drove toward the ancient city of Volubilis.  Our knowledgeable guide wove tales of emperors, traders, and everyday citizens, breathing life into these age-old stones. 

On our way to Fez we had the opportunity to visit one of G Adventures' G for Good Moments, the Mhaya Village Community Lunch. Gathered around a communal table, my fellow travelers and I were treated to a sumptuous spread of traditional Moroccan dishes. Tagines adorned with colorful vegetables, fragrant couscous, and an array of mezze dishes graced our plates. 

We arrived at our Fez hotel and after a brief orientation walk, we had some free time. Some of the group chose to go to the hammam and others also opted for a lively dinner performance.

Day 3: Fez - A City of A Thousand Stories

The promise of adventure hung in the air as we set out on a journey that would take us through a ceramics and pottery studio, into the heart of the bustling Fès medina, and onto a balcony overlooking a legendary tannery.

Our first stop was a ceramics and pottery studio, walking through its doors felt like stepping into an artist's dream. A symphony of colors greeted us – vibrant tajines adorned with intricate designs and mosaics.

Next on our itinerary was a guided tour through the Fès medina – Led by a knowledgeable local guide, we embarked on a journey through streets that whispered tales of a bygone era.

Perhaps the highlight of our tour was the breathtaking view from a leather shop's balcony, offering an unrivaled vantage point to the famous Fès tannery. The scene below was a sea of colorful vats where men toiled tirelessly, treating and dyeing hides with artistry that had been passed down through generations.

Day 4: The Desert's Embrace

Leaving Fez behind, we journeyed south toward the majestic desert landscapes of Merzouga. The ever-changing scenery outside our windows mirrored the shifting sands of the Sahara itself. Experiencing a camel trek across the undulating sand dunes was a surreal encounter with nature's grandeur. The rhythmic sway of the camels, the vastness of the desert, and the blazing sunset formed an indelible memory.

Day 5: Majestic Todra Gorge

Entering the captivating Todra Gorge was like stepping into a realm where time had crafted nature's masterpiece. The towering red cliffs, sculpted over generations by the Todgha River, revealed a story etched in rock. Palm oases, Berber tents, and picturesque mud-house villages painted a vibrant tapestry against the desert backdrop.

Day 6: Time Travel in Ait Benhaddou

Venturing further, we arrived at Ait Benhaddou, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This ancient fortified village, with its intricate mud-brick architecture and labyrinthine alleys, whispered stories of centuries past. Climbing to the heights of the village rewarded us with panoramic views.

An optional tagine cooking demonstration is offered at Aït Ben Haddou. I was intrigued by the allure of the tagine as both a clay pot and a culinary tradition Our guide unveiled the mysteries of this dish, introducing us to the array of ingredients and spices used. 

Day 7: The Marvelous Madness of Marrakech

The journey to Marrakech through the High Atlas Mountains was a visual masterpiece. The Tizi n’Tichka Pass, at an elevation of 2260 meters offered panoramic views.

Upon arrival, we were offered a guided tour of the Marrakech Medina as an immersion into the heart of the city's rich heritage. The Saadian Tombs and the Bahia Palace, adorned with intricate decorations, left me marveling at the artisans' craftsmanship. The highlight of the experience was Jemaa el-Fnaa Square, a kaleidoscope of sights and sounds that encapsulated the spirit of Marrakech.

Day 8: Time for Goodbyes....or is it?

Some of our group arose before the sun had even begun to stretch its golden fingers across the horizon and indulged in an extraordinary adventure – a hot air balloon ride over the wondrous landscapes of Marrakech. A great time was had by all and it was unanimously recommended as a 5-star experience.

This tour officially ended after breakfast on day 8 but I strongly suggest extending your time in Marrakech to see all that it has to offer.
