Visiting Another Winery

I became interested in wine in my early 20s. In the 70s and 80s, wine didn't have the popularity that it does now amongst Americans. Lancers, Gallo, or Paul Masson was it. In the 90's I met a friend who had an exceptional wine cellar and my love of California wines began. 

In the early 90s, I traveled to Sonoma and Napa. I was in my mid-twenties but thought I'd start to learn a bit about wine. I started with one of the best, Silver Oak (Napa). For every exceptional (and pricey) label like Silver Oak, there are smaller, less expensive choices, like a Gundlach Bundschu (Sonoma).

When I hit my 30s and 40s, I had the means to travel. I gravitated towards wine regions. Having explored most of California's bounty, I ventured to the South America with earnest Chilean wines and the exotic Mendoza region of Argentina. It's quite a site to see the towering Andes over gentle rows of Malbec vines.

Most countries make wine and I always make sure I take time to find a tour or a comprehensive tasting so I can help my wine-focused clients hit the right spots. 

Emerging (in popularity) wine regions like Douro, Portugal and Croatia have a lot to offer. Trips to Bordeaux, Champagne, and Burgundy are also mandatory. Even England makes sparkling wine!
