• Honeymooners, Anniversaries & Celebrating Couples: A Maldives honeymoon is not one thing. Gili Lankanfushi is for couples who want zero agenda and total quiet. Conrad Rangali Island has an underwater bedroom where manta rays pass the glass at night. COMO Maalifushi in Thaa Atoll is further out, smaller, and built around the reef rather than the pool. • Families with Children: The goal is kids who are actually busy and parents who can sit down. In Baa Atoll, I book families onto the manta aggregation sites inside the UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, where children snorkel alongside a marine biologist, not just a resort guide. At Four Seasons Landaa Giraavaru, kids plant coral fragments and get a code to track their patch online after they go home. A: Seaplane properties are in the outer atolls, but seaplanes only fly in daylight. If your transatlantic flight lands after dark, a speedboat resort in North Malé Atoll is a much easier start, with transfers running 20 to 45 minutes from the airport.

Q: When is the best time to visit the Maldives for diving and good weather?
A: November through April is dry season with the clearest water. South Ari Atoll produces whale shark sightings year-round, and Baa Atoll manta season runs roughly July through November. May and October are quieter with workable conditions.
