As an only child in a military household, we moved and traveled extensively. I grew up with the idea that the world is there to explore. With my own two children, we have focused on giving them experiences rather than material things resulting in many stamps in their passports and some amazing memories.
I enjoy engaging with families and making plans to show their children destinations both near and far from home. I help them to plan engaging itineraries that meet the specific needs, interests and budget of their families.
I have helped families with island adventures all over Hawaii and the Caribbean and beach destinations on the Atlantic, Pacific and Gulf coasts of the US. I have created multi-destination custom itineraries across Europe for Beatles fans, Lego fans, history buffs, beach lovers and more. I have also sent countless families on cruises throughout Alaska, the Galapagos, Europe and all over the Caribbean.

Adventures in Costa Rica

Girls’ Trip!

With Gretchen’s attention to every detail, my sister, daughter and I experienced the girls’s trip of a lifetime. Gretchen first provided us with several options for our destination. Once we narrowed the options and chose Garza Blanca Resort in Cancun, she booked an amazing swim-up suite for the 3 of us with all-inclusive meals and drinks. She assisted us with everything we needed to have an amazing experience, from booking the air travel to giving us information on the culture, possible excursions from the property and more. Her attention to detail and communication are top notch! The three of us look forward to having Gretchen plan an annual trip for us.

We have taken a number of trips now to Europe, Asia, and the Middle East facilitated by Gretchen, and have just returned from a trip to Europe were we visited friends in London and the Netherlands, traveled through the eastern part of Germany, took a river cruise down the Danube, and visited Barcelona.
We find working with Gretchen the easiest way to travel! We tell her where, when, and how we want to go, what type of hotel we’d like, what we’d like to do, and she makes all the arrangements and provides a detailed day-to-day itinerary with everything you need for each day (tickets, vouchers, reservations, travel hints, etc.). Gretchen is flexible, good-natured, and prompt to reply. Nothing could be better than working with her!

Gretchen did a fantastic job recommending two locations for our week-long trip to Costa Rica! She took care of all of the lodging, various excursions -
horseback riding, scuba diving, zip-lining and white water rafting. While on our trip I even messaged her asking for advice about booking a last minute cacao plantation tour and she responded within hours and made a fantastic recommendation for a tour that ended up being one of the highlights of our trip. My friend, a Costa Rica native, even joined us for the white water rafting excursion Gretchen booked and she had so much fun that she wants to take her family when they come visit.
We referenced the link/portal with our itinerary and confirmation receipts multiple times throughout the trip and it made everything so easy. We will definitely be booking all of our future trips through Gretchen!

This was our first time using a travel agent, and now I don’t think we’ll ever travel without her again. 25th Anniversary European Trip

Gretchen was outstanding putting together a great trip for our 25th Anniversary. We were able to do all the things we hoped to do and it was a good balance between tours and free time to explore. Each hotel was well positioned to be able to get to lots of things easily and the tours were all fun, memorable and just the right amount of time. Gretchen was able to make everything we wanted to do easy and had great suggestions where we weren’t sure what options to select. The Bavarian countryside and towns were amazingly beautiful. Crailsheim, Swabisch Hall, Dinklesbuhl, Vellberg, Rothenberg. Must sees, as were Garmisch, the Zugspitz and the Linderhof palace. A highlight of the trip was the Volksfest in Crailsheim, at the start of Octoberfest.

A wonderful trip. The best thing ever was you Gretchen. Your keeping us up on everything we had to do before, during and ending our trip. We will definitely contact you to plan any future trips. I usually do my own thing because past agents didn't do much of anything. Look at AAA and the travel agent they use, they never contacted me. If you hadn't tried to coordinate their air with your cruise you found my confirmation number was no longer valid and my flights changed. They never contacted me. I would have been in a mess if it wasn't for discovering this. I didn't realize you do the airport, hotel and cruise. Next time I know what you do which is everything. Again we thank you for giving us that wonderful cocktail party. All my nerves about the trip went away and this was a wonderful start of our trip. Thank you so much Gretchen, you are the best!

Canadian Rockies!

Gretchen once again assisted us in organizing the perfect trip. Because the Rockies are so extensive and cover hundreds of miles, we opted for a tour which included an overnight train-Definitely a once in a lifetime experience! The tour, which went to Vancouver, Jasper National Park, Lake Louise and Banff, used the Fairmont hotel chain, and all rooms and meals there were top-notch. We never would have been able to see and do everything we did without Gretchen’s help.

The Trip that Gretchen constructed around our requested complex Itinerary, that included visiting 4 cities in two weeks with numerous activities spread throughout, worked like clockwork when her very clear instructions were followed. we had a wonderful experience thanks ito the detailed organizational plan Gretchen created. She translated our intended goals for the journey, into a well scripted itinerary that captured and in the end, fulfilled, our highest hopes for the trip. Even after two grueling weeks on the road, it was still sad to see the adventure end. My wife and I have had a sail through the Greek Isles on our "Bucket List" for a while and our travel professional Gretchen Winterstein suggested a new cruise company that had great reviews. Boy was she right on top of this as Explora 1 Luxury Cruise Company was an amazing experience. From the time we made reservations and until we got off the boat, Explora 1 Team provided a phenomenal experience. The cabin quality, entertainment, shore excursions, service and food were out of this world and blew us away. Gretchen did a fantastic job keeping us organized and "on track" and providing us a comprehensive itinerary for the entire 12 days we vacationed. Alaska Family Trip 2025!

Gretchen has never steered us wrong and is always quick to respond to our many trip questions! We had the most amazing trip to Alaska with our family and friends which was no small feat for her to plan as we had 47 people in our group! From the flights (and seats we wanted) to hotels and cruise arrangements, Gretchen did a great job catering to the needs of individuals and our entire group. Our stay in Vancouver before the trip was so wonderful that we want to go back for a longer visit in the future. The Alaska trip was a once in a lifetime view of glaciers, mountains, and wildlife that we will cherish forever. The excursions were the best from hiking near glaciers and waterfalls, taking the white pass/Yukon railway to see the full Alaskan landscape, a sled dogs visit, gold panning, and even a magical stop in the woods with lighted walkways and delicious salmon bake. We had a unique opportunity to follow a group of students on their singing tour of The Baltic States. Within a few days of reaching out to Gretchen we had flights, hotel rooms and tons of tour and guide recommendations, including drivers to get us to the 4 cities we visited. Gretchen provides a detailed itinerary (printed or electronic) complete with links to attractions and tickets for your tours. Her system also helps track the cost as the itinerary builds. Once we were traveling, Gretchen kept in touch and helped with changes as needed. The Trip was great and exceeded out expectations. Our second European trip planned by Gretchen. As with the first, all of our preferences were honored. The 10 day trip included London, Brussels and Paris with visits to castles, museums and river cruises. Everything was planned expertly. The itinerary was busy and there were several events that had to be rescheduled at the last minute due to tour guide cancellations. I can’t say enough good things about the amazing trip Gretchen from Recharge Travel planned for me to Switzerland. From start to finish, everything was just so thoughtfully put together. I told her I wanted a mix of stunning scenery, a little adventure, and some time to just unwind—and somehow she managed to capture exactly what I needed, even better than I could’ve imagined.

Amazing Australian Adventure

This was our first time using a travel agent, and it was such a great experience! Gretchen asked all the right questions to learn our traveling style and provided us with numerous options for all aspects of the trip. We were pampered at the hotels and were pleased with all the excursions.
When our flight was canceled, she was available to assist us and reschedule some activities so that there was limited impact to our trip.
Our Trip Plans were always updated, and it was so helpful to have all the information we needed on one place. We didn't have to print anything to carry with us.

If I could give Gretchan Winterstein from Recharge travel a ten-star review, I would. I found her by googling. Her website is very professional. Gretchan worked with us for months planning flights, seats, hotels, location, tours, eurostar train tickets. Our trip was US to Germany to London and home. Gretchen made us an itinerary printed everything had it all in order with the exact airline seats, class of tickets/seats and followed any airline changes. She collected all the tickets for tours and any tickets we needed printed them and mailed them in a packet to us. She followed our trip via email to make sure we had everything, and things were going as planned. She made sure we had travel insurance and a checklist of everything we needed to take care of for international travel. She is very well educated and prepared. The perfect trip

We stumbled upon Gretchen quite by accident. After deciding to make this trip (our 1st abroad) we called a few travel agents. Gretchen was the only one to call us back promptly. We had no idea what to expect from a travel agent much less from her personally. The planning stage involved several back and forth emails and phone conversations regarding our preferences. We eventually received from her all of our event tickets and passes and a complete itinerary, and off we went, more than a little nervous about how things would go. It is hard to imagine things going any better. Day after day we presented to people thousands of miles away speaking broken english a form/pass that had been supplied to us by Gretchen, and time after time the response was, "Ah yes sir, we have you on the list, your tour will begin shortly." It was almost magical. This woman is a consummate pro. We give her the highest recommendation.

Asian Disney Parks

Gretchen put together our bucket list trip to visit the Asian Disney parks and sites in Hong Kong, Shanghai, and Tokyo. She listened to what we wanted to do, offered suggestions of places to visit and made the necessary reservations to make it happen. Where Gretchen's expertise came into play was in taking care of the Disney parks part of our trip. They all have varying dates in which hotel reservations can be made, which are usually different from dates in which tickets can be reserved. Tokyo Disney is a whole other ball game. Reservations become available four months out and open up at 9pm EST. The hotel we wanted would literally sell out within a minute or two. Gretchen practiced using the system several times and when the time came, she got the hotel and room type that we wanted. We appreciated her travel tips, helping us stay within our budget, being flexible, and taking care of all the details. We appreciated her helping us with problems even though she was in Greec

Recharge Travel is the absolute best! Gretchen has helped me plan 4 huge trips, including 3 international ones with our kids (Disney/Universal, Galapagos, Paris/London, and Scotland). She makes everything so much easier, from travel insurance to excursions. Almost everything has been perfect, but on the very rare occasion when it wasn't, she handled the situation immediately. We had one difficult private guided excursion in Scotland where a last minute driver change resulted in us getting lost and not getting to visit the places that were promised. I let Gretchen know what was happening and, by the time we got back to our hotel, she had already spoken to the manager and had gotten us a full refund for the entire day. She has also been incredibly thoughtful about our special needs, since we have an autistic son. She always goes above and beyond!! A Perfect Trip from Start to Finish!

Gretchen was the ideal travel agent, starting with the planning process and ending with emails and a phone call, even once the trip had ended! During the planning process, she helped us to find the best route around Ireland and booked the rail tickets between each of the 4 cities we decided to visit.
She also suggested and booked some amazing activities and day trips for each city, and even helped us to find 2 guided bike rides which were perfect for sight-seeing and learning about the history from the guides. Gretchen found great hotels in each city, and all 4 of the hotels were very accommodating, comfortable, and perfect locations for getting around. Each hotel also included a huge Irish breakfast!

Fantastic 50th Wedding Anniversary family trip!

Gretchen was AMAZING! She helped planned everything for our family’s St. Lucia trip to celebrate my parents 50th wedding anniversary. She arranged everything from our flights, our transfers, to our rooms. This trip consisted of a total of 21 people from 6 different families, traveling from 3 different states, and 4 different cities. Our age group ranged from 8 years old to 70 years old. She found us an all inclusive resort (Coconut Bay) that had something for everyone. Activities ranging from a kids club, paintball, and a petting zoo, to water slides and lazy rivers.
