Hawaii is a place that has something for everyone.  If you are planning a visit, I highly recommend doing at least 10 days and visiting a minimum of 2 islands.  Out of the 3 I have been to if I could only pick 2 it would be Oahu and the Big Island.  

Oahu is going to be the island that has your nightlife, lots of things to do, great beaches, plenty of restaurants, shopping and attractions.  Things to try and do that are musts on Oahu are the Dole Plantation, Waimea Falls, drive to the North Shore and stop at one of the many shrimp shacks along the way, check out the views from Diamond Head, eat a local dish called the locomoco, and take a surfing lesson.

Maui is going to be the opposite of Oahu where it is more laid back, more for relaxing and checking out their beautiful beaches.  Going to the top of Mt. Haleakala and checking out the sunrise or driving the Road to Hana.  But things shut down kind of early on this island.

The Big Island will have some of the best sight seeing.  The lava terrain of Kona - it's like you have landed on another planet.  The lush side of Hilo.  The waterfalls and greenery on the Hilo side are just beautiful.  Here is where you need to try some shaved ice, definitely drive around the island and see some the "colored" sand beaches as well as visit Volcano National Park.  

And of course it doesn't matter which island you are on, make sure to go to a luau while you are there!

Hawaii is definitely a destination I would recommend to everyone.
