The temples of Japan
Japan is one of the safest and friendliest countries in the world. School children ride the subway unaccompanied without a problem, and if a problem should arise, the passengers are quick to assist in any way.
Japan is relatively easy to get around. Many folks speak English and will help you an any way. The train system in phenomenal. Trains leave precisely when they are supposed to and, with a rail pass, getting from one spot to another is easy. Riding the Shinkansen 'bullet train' is a must. Traveling at upwards of 200 mph past Mount Fuji is a thrill.
Learn about the heritage through the vast array of temples. We chose a hub and spoke adventure, staying in hotels right at the train stations. The train station in Kyoto is a sight to see - and adventure in and of itself. Watch thousands of young children as the board the trains with perfect discipline for their twice a year field trips.
Visit Heroshima and understand the end of World War 2 in the Pacific as the Japanese viewed it. The Hiroshima museum captures well that most historic moment of time.
We put together our own package, as my traveling mate lived in Japan for two years and knew the country well. Great suppliers include Globus and Tauck.

We have used Rusty on several of our cruises and extended stays - everywhere from three weeks in Europe, ten days in Hawaii, all sorts of Caribbean cruises, etc. Because he is so well travelled, he is always willing to share his knowledge to ensure you get the most out of your vacation. I would absolutely recommend him to new cruisers, large groups of people (reunions, weddings, etc.) and anyone who is celebrating special occasions. We would not use anyone else. This was our first trans atlantic crossing and we had many questions both at the beginning and during the trip. Russell responded to all of them in a timely and helpful manner. We ofter changed details of the trip and he was equally helpful in making arrangements and canceling them in favor of others. I fear we were a bit of a pest but his responses never reflected that possibility. Rusty was a big help in making the trip a success. Rusty is on top of every detail of a trip. When booking a year ahead any number of changes can occur. Rusty ensures they are addressed immediately and without impact on a long awaited trip. His recommendations have always been excellent. He occasionally will book himself on a cruise with a large number of his clients and is in a position to solve any problems that arise. Kind of like having your own personal cruise director. I would not think of booking any type of cruise or overseas trip with anyone other than Rusty Pickett of Shellback cruises. Great Cruise Experiances

My wife and I have booked several cruises with Shellback Cruises. They were all fantastic. He guided us to the best locations on the ship. Some friends we traveled with on our last cruise booked themselves, online. They got a good deal on a balcony cabin. Rusty told me they would be sorry. They were, the balcony was partially blocked by a lifeboat. The room he booked us was midship, and unobstructed. Just a few steps from the elevator to the dining room. Guess where everyone hung out...in our cabin, of course. On my birthday cruise, several years ago, we were upgraded from a mini- suite to a penthouse suite. That was a great surprise. Rusty has always recommended the best shore trips too. Much cheaper, and better, than the ones the cruise line sponsors. I wouldn't consider using anyone but Shellback Cruises.

Rusty Pickett has proved to us on several occasions his knowledge of the travel industry as well as of the destination we wish to visit. His unusually prompt response by either phone or e-mail to any question/concerns one might have is certainly appreciated. We had to cancel a Baltic cruise, and Rusty took care of all the travel insurance paperwork leaving us relieved.
We definitely recommend him for his travel expertise, his helpfulness, and the fact that one can easily communicate with him even though he may be traveling himself.
