I believe wine tasting is an experience that is meant to be savored, not rushed. Taking time with family and friends around a table, telling stories about great experiences, while sharing some well paired bites. Before you know it, a couple of hours have gone by, not to mention a couple of bottles of wine as you journey through your tasting. 

Those wineries that are off the beaten path, have a history, are family owned and not owned by a conglomerate, are my favorite to find. When you can meet the winemaker who is proud to share the finished product, show you their methods and tour the grounds enhance your experience. Some of my favorite experiences have been combining history and wine tasting on the hilltops of Tuscany. Picture yourself strolling through lush vineyards, learning about the art of winemaking, and indulging in perfectly paired meals. 

Although I spent many years living 50 miles from the Napa Valley which make some of the most incredible wines, I prefer the enjoyment of a slower atmosphere like that which you will experience in Italy or New Zealand. Not to mention, Italian wines are my favorite. I have been tasting in regions all over California and Oregon, Italy, New Zealand, and have a trip planned for Argentina.
