Active Adventure is not synonymous with "adrenaline" events.  I have no experience with the dangerous and death defying.

OK, well then what IS an active or adventurous vacation?  It is pretty much any vacation where you do more than shop and relax on a beach; anything a little (or a lot!) outside your comfort zone.  It can be luxurious or rustic; easy going or intense...it's up to you.  Golfing, hiking, climbing, snorkeling, SCUBA diving, surfing and kayaking are great activities to enhance any getaway.  Maybe you'd like something a little more adventurous like rappelling down a waterfall or swimming with manta rays.  Did you know you can snorkel in Alaska?   It's cold but amazing!  How about an expedition to the Australian outback,  the Great Barrier Reef or the Galapagos?  Maybe hiking to a hidden waterfall in Hawaii or doing an African safari by private plane?   Or maybe just borrowing a bicycle as you step off your river cruise to explore a village on your own.
