CruisesAbout Me
I’ve been fortunate to cruise many times throughout the Caribbean, and each trip has shown me something new to love about this beautiful region. The Eastern Caribbean in particular is full of culture, flavor, history, and some of the most stunning beaches you’ll ever see. Every island has its own personality, and I’ve enjoyed exploring both the lively port areas and the quieter corners that feel a little more local.
Here are a few of my favorite stops on Eastern Caribbean sailings and what made them stand out to me:
Nassau, Bahamas
Nassau is always a vibrant and colorful stop. On one of my visits, I explored the historic Queen’s Staircase, a beautiful limestone staircase built in the late 1700s, tucked into a shaded stone corridor that feels worlds away from the busy streets. I’ve also wandered through the Straw Market, where local artisans sell handmade crafts, jewelry, and souvenirs, it’s a fun way to get a feel for Bahamian culture. I took a tour of the Atlantis Resort on Paradise Island, where the massive aquariums and marine exhibits are as impressive as the resort itself. And more recently, Nassau’s cruise port went through a major renovation. Now it’s packed with shops, entertainment, and restaurants, making it worth exploring even if you stay close to the ship.
Philipsburg, St. Maarten
St. Maarten is one of those islands where you get the best of both world; Dutch and French influences in one destination. In Philipsburg, I’ve spent time walking the soft white beaches right near the port and browsing the waterfront shops. One of the highlights was taking an island tour that showed off the lush landscapes and took us to the famous Maho Beach, where planes fly just overhead as they land at Princess Juliana Airport. It’s an unforgettable experience. Another favorite memory was visiting Topper’s Rhum Distillery; a fun and flavorful stop where I got to sample several varieties, but the banana cinnamon vanilla was the clear winner for me.
Charlotte Amalie, St. Thomas
St. Thomas has a perfect mix of scenic views and beach time. We started with an island tour that took us through the hills and gave us incredible views of the harbor. One of the most memorable stops was a scenic overlook at the island’s highest point, where the views were absolutely breathtaking. I tried local cuisine, including conch fritters, which are a must-try dish in the Virgin Islands. After sightseeing, we spent a relaxing afternoon at Magens Bay, one of the most beautiful beaches I’ve ever seen. The water was calm and clear, with soft sand and a peaceful atmosphere that felt like a little slice of paradise.
Labadee, Haiti
Labadee is Royal Caribbean’s private beach paradise tucked along Haiti’s northern coast. We took a scenic boat ride along the coastline, soaking in the turquoise waters and rugged cliffs that surround the area. The private beach itself is perfect for lounging or water sports, and the whole area feels exclusive and beautifully maintained. It’s a great spot to relax, enjoy a beach day with fewer crowds, and feel like you’ve found a hidden gem.
San Juan, Puerto Rico
San Juan offers a rich mix of history and adventure. On one visit, I took an ATV excursion that let me explore the island’s lush terrain and get off the beaten path. I also enjoyed wandering through the historic streets of Old San Juan, soaking in the colorful colonial architecture, cobblestone roads, and centuries-old forts. The blend of culture, history, and natural beauty makes San Juan a fascinating and lively stop on any Eastern Caribbean itinerary.
