EnterpriseAbout Me
There’s something magical about packing up the Minivan, grabbing snacks, and hitting the road with your family. Our recent trip from Toronto to Long Island for a Wedding, was more than just a drive for our family it was a journey filled with laughter, nostalgia, and unforgettable moments.
As we cruised down the QEW, the excitement built. The kids were buzzing, the playlist was on point, and the trunk was packed with essentials. We always leave early to beat the traffic, and it’s a good thing we did, crossing the border can take time, especially at the Rainbow International Bridge near Niagara Falls. We made sure to have our passports ready, along with our accommodation details, since border agents often ask where you’re headed. If you're traveling with kids, remember to carry their passports too, remember if you're not the parent, a notarized letter of consent is a must.
Once we were through customs, the real adventure began. The drive from Toronto to Brooklyn is about 800 km (497 miles) and takes roughly 8 to 10 hours, depending on stops and traffic. But we never rush. For us, the journey is just as important as the destination. We love making special stops along the way. Our first was the iconic Niagara Falls, just an hour from Toronto. Even if you’ve seen it before, the view never gets old. We took a quick walk along the promenade and snapped some family photos with the mist rising behind us. From there we passed through Buffalo, where we stretched our legs at Canalside, a beautiful waterfront area with food trucks and live music. Driving through the Finger Lakes region, we were surrounded by rolling hills and vineyards. If you have time, Watkins Glen State Park is a must see, with its stunning waterfalls and scenic trails. Further along, Syracuse offered a great place to refuel and grab lunch. We love finding local diners there’s something comforting about a classic grilled cheese and fries on a road trip. Then it was on to Albany, where we admired the architecture of the New York State Capitol and took a short walk through Washington Park. As we approached the Hudson Valley, the scenery shifted to lush forests and winding rivers. The Catskills were breathtaking, and we made a quick detour to enjoy the views. If you’re into hiking or just want a peaceful break, this area is perfect. Of course finding parking in busy towns and cities was always an adventure. Whether it was squeezing into tight spots or circling the block a few times, it became part of the fun and a great lesson in patience! This trip brought back so many memories of my childhood. Every year, my family would plan a trip to Brooklyn, and it was always the highlight of our summer. We’d visit my dad’s side of the family, spend sunny days at Coney Island, walk across the Brooklyn Bridge, and laugh until our cheeks hurt.We had our traditions too like stopping at the Duty Free for Rum, Chocolate, and Cigarettes (a Caribbean classic!) and hitting the Buffalo outlets for some shopping deals. Those trips weren’t just about the destination they were about connection, joy and making memories. Now I get to share those same experiences with my own kids. Watching them light up at the same places I loved as a child is a gift I’ll never take for granted. It’s a beautiful cycle passing down traditions and creating new ones. So whether you’re planning a quick getaway or a full blown family road trip. I encourage you to start writing your next chapter. Pack your bags, grab your passports, and hit the road, Because the best adventures are the ones we share together. Start planning your next escape your memories are waiting to be made.
