Croatia felt like it was pulled straight out of a movie—almost like living inside a cinematic piece—especially because so much of it is tied to Mamma Mia! and Game of Thrones, which was one of the biggest reasons I wanted to visit in the first place. What surprised me most was how that cinematic magic led me to discover so much more: a country that feels modern and advanced, yet deeply respectful of its ancient roots, preserving original architecture and natural beauty in the most effortless way.
Dubrovnik was unforgettable. As a Game of Thrones fan who loves the fantasy era, walking through the Old Town felt surreal. This was King’s Landing—not a set, but a real place. I wandered slowly through the limestone streets, exploring museums and stepping into historic churches, admiring the centuries-old architecture that gave the city its dramatic presence long before the cameras arrived. Between exploring, I stopped at small cafés tucked away in quiet corners, enjoying a glass of wine while taking in views of the Adriatic and the city walls.
On the island of Vis, everything softened. In Komiža, where Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again was filmed, the atmosphere felt light, warm, and effortlessly joyful. I strolled along the harbor, watched the boats drift in and out, and took my time discovering nearby coves and beaches. Meals here were simple but memorable—fresh seafood, local olive oil, and wine enjoyed slowly, with nowhere to rush to. The island felt preserved, cinematic, and deeply authentic all at once.
In Split, history and everyday life blended seamlessly. Exploring the ancient palace at the center of the city felt like walking through a living museum. I spent time visiting churches, admiring the original stonework, and learning more through local museums. This was also where my love for food truly came alive—tasting regional wines, sampling olive oil, and enjoying European-style dishes that felt rooted in tradition rather than trend. What made Croatia so special was its balance. It gave me the fantasy and cinematic moments I came for, but also revealed a deeper beauty—ancient architecture, natural landscapes, rich food traditions, and a way of preserving the past while still moving forward. It was immersive, authentic, and unforgettable.
