I boarded the cruise ship in Athens, but our first port was Thessaloniki. Waking up to the city from the deck was an amazing start—its waterfront along the Thermaic Gulf glimmered in the morning sun.Day 1: Thessaloniki, GreeceThessaloniki immediately felt vibrant and historic. I walked along the seaside promenade, stopping at small cafes and admiring street performers. Visiting the White Tower gave me panoramic views of the city, and wandering through the Byzantine churches in the old town reminded me how layered the history here is. I tried local pastries like bougatsa and sampled fresh seafood at a small tavern. Spending a day here gave me a sense of modern Greek city life before the islands.Day 2: Kusadasi, Turkey – EphesusFrom Kusadasi, I took a guided tour to Ephesus. Walking along marble streets thousands of years old, seeing the Library of Celsus and the amphitheater, was surreal. The guide explained the history in detail, making it easy to imagine daily life in ancient times. It was warm, so I made sure to stay hydrated and wear comfortable shoes. After the ruins, I briefly explored Kusadasi town before returning to the ship.Day 3: Rhodes, GreeceRhodes felt medieval and atmospheric. I wandered the Old Town, walking through cobblestone streets, past fortress walls, and exploring the Palace of the Grand Master. Cafes and small shops lined the streets, giving the area a lively yet historic feel. It’s larger than it looks, so I focused on the main landmarks while enjoying a few quiet corners.Day 4: Crete (Chania), GreeceChania, Crete, was charming. The Venetian harbor immediately drew me in, with its colorful buildings and small fishing boats. I walked cobblestone streets, explored local markets, and enjoyed fresh seafood at a waterfront taverna. The old town has a lot to see, even in a short visit, and it felt like a perfect mix of history and local life.Day 5: Santorini, GreeceSantorini was stunning but busy. I spent the day in Oia, navigating the narrow alleys and admiring the famous caldera views. The sunset was breathtaking—the sky turning shades of pink and gold over the whitewashed buildings. Even with crowds, the views and atmosphere made it a highlight of the trip.Day 6: Mykonos, GreeceMykonos was lively and stylish. The whitewashed streets of Mykonos Town are full of shops, cafes, and the iconic windmills. I wandered the alleys, visited the harbor, and later rented a scooter to explore some quieter beaches. The island has a fun, energetic vibe, especially compared to Santorini’s dramatic scenery.Day 7: Milos, GreeceMilos felt quieter and more natural than the other islands. I explored volcanic rock formations, hidden coves, and small beaches. The scenery was dramatic—steep cliffs meeting turquoise water—and it was perfect for a more relaxed, nature-focused day. I spent hours walking along the coast and taking photos, appreciating the peaceful atmosphere.
