About Me

Me in front of the Blue Mosque in Istanbul,Türkiye
Me in front of the Blue Mosque in Istanbul,Türkiye

I left my first career as a mechanical engineer in order to raise my three children. During those years, I was a freelance travel writer and guidebook author. My husband and I took our kids to all 50 states and over a dozen countries while they were growing up.

After our nest emptied, I decided to use my experience to help others as a travel advisor. I am passionate about experiencing new destinations and helping others strengthen their relationships through traveling. I consider travel to be an essential part of a child’s education.

I love helping people explore the world, experience adventure, and learn about other cultures.

The name Big Rock Travel was inspired by the classic time management parable about fitting rocks, gravel, and sand into a jar. When you try to put the sand and gravel in first, you can’t fit in all of the big rocks. The lesson learned is that you have to put the big rocks in first, and then the gravel and sand fill in around the big rocks. I apply that philosophy to travel planning. Travel requires time and money, which are limited resources.

I like to work with people who value what travel brings to their lives and consider travel to be one of their big rocks. I’ll work with you to help you achieve your travel goals.

Wonderful Experience Planning With Terri
Reviewed By SusanA - Loveland, OH | Traveled to Niagara Falls ~ Ontario ~ Canada
Working with Terri to plan our family's summer vacation was an awesome experience and I would highly recommend her to plan your ideal vacation. I wanted to make sure we saw all the best sites and fit everything into our schedule in our multi-city, state, and country vacation, and Terri planned it perfectly. Terri asked all the right questions to find out what we wanted to do and learn our family's comfort level in regards to how much we wanted to travel in one day, how busy we wanted to stay, and what accommodations work best for our family's needs and price range. Terri's knowledge of the different locations was invaluable to make sure we efficiently spent our time and money.

We had a great vacation, perfectly planned trip spending one or two nights each in Pittsburgh, Buffalo, Erie and Niagara Falls, Canada. The multiple options Terri gave us for hotels, and suggestions for places to eat, took a lot of guess work out of the planning and was appreciated.
I would recommend this agent to my family and friends.

Rhine River Cruise

I took my youngest daughter with me on a Rhine River cruise in 2021. We sailed from Basel, Switzerland, to Amsterdam in the Netherlands. Along the way, we had stops in France and Germany. In just a week, we visited so many interesting places. Before we boarded the ship, we had a chance to visit Lucerne, Switzerland. The Old Town with its ...

Hawaii: adventure or romance or both

Hawaii is one of those destinations that is ideal for either couples or families. I’ve done it both ways and loved it equally. Hawaii was the last destination that my husband and I visited before having children. Then we visited again with our kids nearly 20 years later. It was the 50th state for our kids, so it was a special trip. I usua...

It reflects the optimism and gratitude of Costa Ricans. And they have so many natural treasures to be grateful for! It’s a fantastic destination for nature and adventu...

Machu Picchu is a bucket list destination for many travelers, for good reason. It is not only culturally fascinating, but the Andes Mountains are absolutely breathtaking. I took my family there in 2022. The capital of the Inca Empire was Cusco, Peru and the region surrounding it is known as the Sacred Valley. Machu Picchu is only one of t...
