Royal Caribbean’s Timeless Ships

Royal Caribbean® is often in the news for launching game-changing ships like IconSM, UtopiaSM and Star of the SeasSM. But did you know that the popular cruise line has a total of 28 ships taking guests on epic vacations, with a 29th coming in August 2025? Well-known and loved by cruisers worldwide, Royal Caribbean’s older, more established ships are innovative in their own right, with many Royal Amplified® to add fan-favorite experiences and restaurants. Here, we spotlight a few timeless classics you should definitely check out.

When Freedom of the Seas® launched in 2006, it was instantly in high demand thanks to Royal Caribbean staples such as the rock-climbing wall, ice-skating rink, British-style pub, FlowRider® surf simulator and Broadway musicals. In 2020, the ship got amped up to include modern Royal Caribbean favorites like The Perfect StormSM, PlaymakersSM Sports Bar & Arcade, laser tag, an escape room and more. From decked-out ways to dial up date night to totally reimagined spaces for kids and teens, this ship offers something bold for everybody while exploring Southern Caribbean shores.

The same can be said for Voyager of the Seas® — which launched in 1999 and was amped up in 2019. Set sail to scope out Western Caribbean gems like Cozumel, or head off on a legendary Euro summer vacation through the Mediterranean. No matter which destination you choose, you’ll find plenty of thrills on board in between adventures ashore, like adrenaline-pumping slides and rides right on deck, a new pool scene designed to level up your time in the sun and fresh, authentic flavors that will satisfy any craving.

Radiance of the Seas® — launched 2001 and revitalized in 2016 — dazzles with the most glass of any Royal Caribbean® ship, making it the perfect fit for glacier gazing in Alaska and soaking up the sun in the tropics. When not awestruck by the destinations you visit, you’ll discover endless ways to seize the day on deck, from wine tasting at the Schooner Bar and world-class dining at the Chef’s Table to live music and a pint at the Quill & Compass and movie nights under the stars.

Royal Caribbean’s Vision Class — Grandeur®, Enchantment®, Rhapsody® and Vision of the Seas® — harken back to a more traditional cruise experience with a no-frills, relaxed atmosphere on board. Constructed with an abundance of glass to create soul-stirring panoramic views, these ships were designed to sail the entire world, and today they provide the most diverse itineraries across Royal Caribbean’s fabled fleet.
