There are also river cruises in the US. They sail along the Mississippi river, the Columbia & Snake river, the Hudson river and the New England waterways. Some itineraries skirt in and around Florida, the Great Lakes, or along Alaska.

American Cruise Lines is one of my clients’ favorite river cruise lines in the US. The ships are small ships, about 100 to 180 guests, rooms are spacious, and they offer a quiet relaxed atmosphere.

The cruises offer an authentic American experience – from the food (American regional food), to the entertainment (many times regional entertainers are invited onboard), to the places visited (historically significant places, beautiful gardens and natural sights).

Flights to the embarkation ports are generally short. There are no huge time differences which help with jetlag. And there is no passport required.

River cruising in the US can be summarized as ‘being easy, stress-free travel, focused on American history and nature,’ or as someone said, as ‘being on a floating boutique hotel that moves you through America’s story, one town at a time.”
