“You can’t buy happiness. But, you can buy a ticket to Hawaii, and that’s pretty much the same”-goinformed.net
If you can visit only one island of Hawaii, you should strongly consider the Island of Oahu. It’s the heart of Hawaii. Oahu offers the city of Honolulu for those that desire a metropolitan atmosphere. But it also offers mountains, surf (North Shore and Waikiki), history (Pearl Harbor, Bishop Museum, Iolani Palace, and Diamond Head), culture (Polynesian Cultural Center), and LOTS of activities to keep everyone busy!
The Dole Plantation will show you how pineapples are grown and harvested. They also have the Pineapple Express Train and the Pineapple Garden Maze - prepare to get lost! There is a great gift shop with all sorts of Hawaii made souvenirs. And who can resist the taste of the Dole Soft-Serve – one of my favorite treats! You can also purchase a fresh pineapple to send home!
While we’re on the subject of food: The shrimp trucks located along the North Shore can’t be missed. This is a great treat while you’re watching the surfers during the winter months. There is also Duke’s Restaurant on Waikiki Beach, where you can pay homage to the great surfer, Duke Kahanamoku, while dining in your Hawaiian shirts and sundresses! Other foods not to be missed include Shave Ice (Matsumoto’s on the North Shore), Malasada’s (Bakery item), and Fresh Poke!
Additional activities: Hiking up Diamond Head! Make sure you make reservations early, AND early in the day. It does get hot if you wait until afternoon. Views of Waikiki, and surrounding areas, are breathtaking! Make sure you bring water and sunscreen!
So many other activities – great hikes, snorkeling, dinner cruise along Waikiki and, or course, a Hawaiian Luau!
Best time to visit? High temperatures average in the 80 degrees. Rain is most prevalent October through February. I would say the “best” time to visit is April – May.Remember to pack your Hawaiian shirts, shorts, sandals, and, of course, swimsuit! Life is very casual here! Relax – you’re on Hawaiian time!
Everyone should visit Hawaii – especially Oahu – once in their lifetime. It’s perfect for families and adults of all ages.
